Honoring a True Leader: Christopher Lee Receives the 2025 FPA CT Lifetime Achievement Award

April 30, 2025

Last week, at the Financial Planning Association of Connecticut’s annual conference at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, CT, we had the distinct honor of witnessing a moment that was as inspiring as it was well-deserved. Our very own, Christopher Lee, CFP® was presented with the 2025 FPA CT Lifetime Achievement Award, a prestigious recognition bestowed upon individuals who have demonstrated a long-standing commitment to advancing the financial planning profession, mentoring others, and serving the FPA CT chapter through years of dedicated volunteerism. (The Financial Planning Association (FPA) is the largest membership organization in the US representing financial planners and its current membership is at 22,000).

The FPA is primarily focused on supporting Certified Financial Planner members.

Chris’s journey with the FPA began in 2003, and over the past 22 years, he has become a pillar of leadership, service, and advocacy. His extensive resume of involvement includes serving as Chapter President for six terms—and counting. In fact, he’s signed on to serve again next year. Chris has also been a driving force behind the success of the FPA CT Annual Conference, chairing or co-chairing the event eight times and helping plan it for an incredible 16 years.

But perhaps one of his most impactful contributions was orchestrating the 2020 merger of FPA chapters into the unified FPA Connecticut Chapter. At a time when the world was reeling from the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, Chris took the helm as President of the newly merged chapter, guiding the organization through uncharted waters with clarity and compassion.

Chris’s commitment to financial literacy is equally impressive. From co-developing the Hartford Chapter’s speaker’s bureau and pro bono initiatives with the State Treasurer’s office, to leading advocacy efforts that helped pass SB 1165, which mandates financial literacy education in Connecticut high schools, Chris has left a lasting legacy. Thanks to his efforts, the Class of 2027 will be the first in Connecticut to graduate with a required half-credit course in financial literacy.

His work with organizations like CT JumpStart for Financial Literacy and Connecticut Future Business Leaders of America further illustrates his deep belief in education as the foundation for financial empowerment. His outreach extends far beyond the advisory community—touching the lives of students, families, and citizens across the state.

Chris doesn’t just lead—he inspires. As was noted in the presentation speech, “What that history on paper doesn’t show is how he inspires other leaders. He exemplifies the spirit of this award. He seeks out new volunteers and brings them into a family. He mentors and motivates others with his kind manner. He easily attracts new members with his enthusiasm for FPA. Everyone that knows him respects the hell out of him!”

That sentiment was met with resounding applause when the award was announced: “Ladies and gentlemen – The 2025 FPA CT Lifetime Achievement Award recipient -- Chris Lee!”

As Chris continues his legacy—stepping into the role of FPA CT Chapter President again in 2025, while also leading the Pro Bono and Financial Literacy initiatives—we are reminded of the incredible impact one person can have on a profession, a community, and a generation of future planners.

Congratulations, Chris Lee. Your dedication, leadership, and heart have shaped the FPA and inspired us all. We are grateful and proud to celebrate this milestone with you.
